Woman Hospitalized After Car Crashes Through Burton Mobile Home
A Burton woman remained in intensive care after a car crashed through her family's mobile home Sunday evening, causing serious injuries and displacing the family.
The crash happened around 7:50 p.m. July 12 at Creek Wood Mobile Home Park off Bristol Road. Three adults and a child were inside, according to Mid-Michigan NOW's interviews with the family.
Tonya McCallum said her mother, Paula, was in bed when the car broke through the wall. The impact threw the bed toward the bathroom and seriously injured Paula.
The family said Paula suffered a ruptured spleen, bruised lungs and a fractured pelvis. Her spleen was removed, and she had undergone two surgeries while remaining in the ICU when the report was published.
The McCallums said they had been given two weeks in a hotel, but their housing after that was uncertain. They were still waiting for answers about the damage and insurance coverage. Burton police had not responded to the outlet before publication, leaving the driver's identity and the cause unconfirmed.
Insurance Questions After a Car Crashes Into a Home
A crash like this can create separate injury and property claims. Michigan DIFS distinguishes Personal Injury Protection and Property Protection Insurance. PIP may address medical and related benefits after an auto crash, while Property Protection Insurance covers damage a vehicle causes in Michigan to another person's buildings and other property. The correct insurers and available benefits depend on the policies, priority rules and facts. Our guide explains who may pay medical bills after a Michigan car accident.
