Calumet man crashes into two garages and dies after medical emergency while driving
A 50-year-old Calumet man died Sunday after experiencing a medical emergency while driving his pickup.
Michigan State Police Calumet Post troopers responded at about 3:53 p.m. Aug. 30 to School Street near Hecla Street in Calumet Township. A preliminary investigation found the driver swerved off the road and hit a home’s attached garage.
The driver then shifted into reverse, crossed the street and hit another home’s attached garage on the south side, troopers said.
A trooper and a first responder removed him from the pickup and attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR. He was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
State police said the driver’s death was suspected to have resulted from the medical emergency rather than crash injuries. No one in either home was injured, and no other injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
