Two Motorcycle Riders Seriously Injured in Monroe Township Crash

Two Motorcycle Riders Seriously Injured in Monroe Township Crash

Two motorcycle riders were seriously injured Wednesday night in a Monroe Township crash involving a Kia Sportage, according to a Monroe News report citing the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The crash was reported at 7:34 p.m. on July 8, 2026, on East Albain Road in Monroe Township.

The report identified the motorcycle operator as Ryan Warren, 39, of Taylor, and the rear-seat passenger as Ashley Kiss, 34, also of Taylor. The Kia driver was identified as Tenny Gilces-Cedeno, 56, of Hilliard, Ohio, with Carlos Saavedra-Gilces, 33, in the front passenger seat.

According to the sheriff's preliminary investigation reported by The Monroe News, Gilces-Cedeno was driving a gray 2023 Kia Sportage northeast on East Albain Road when a green 2022 Kawasaki EX650 motorcycle hit the Kia while the Kia was negotiating a curve.

The preliminary report said the motorcycle was traveling southwest at high speed when it crossed the centerline, lost control, and caused the crash. Both motorcycle riders fell from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.

The initial report did not identify the hospital where the riders were taken, their current conditions, any citations, or final crash findings.

Legal Issues After a Monroe Township Motorcycle and Kia Crash

Because this crash involved a motorcycle and a Kia, the injured rider and passenger may need a motorcycle-specific no-fault priority review. MCL 500.3114 has special priority rules for motorcycle operators and passengers when an accident shows evidence of motor vehicle involvement.

That insurance issue is separate from fault. Here, the preliminary public account says the motorcycle crossed the centerline at high speed while the Kia was negotiating a curve, so any third-party claim would turn heavily on the final reconstruction, vehicle positions, witness or video evidence, and Michigan comparative-fault rules.

Serious injuries can also raise a separate pain-and-suffering question under MCL 500.3135, but the legal threshold depends on medical proof and how the injuries affect the person's normal life.
