Motorcycle rider dies after Southfield Road crash in Lathrup Village
A motorcycle rider died Tuesday in a collision with two other vehicles in Lathrup Village.
The crash happened about 5 p.m. at Southfield Road and Sunset Boulevard, according to the Lathrup Village Police Department.
Police said during a preliminary investigation witnesses reported that the rider had been operating the motorcycle erratically while heading north on Southfield Road. The witnesses said the rider entered the intersection against a red light and collided with another vehicle.
The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered severe injuries. Officers performed CPR and other lifesaving measures before the rider was taken to a hospital, where the rider was pronounced dead.
Police said the occupants of the second vehicle were treated for injuries at the scene and released.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office sent accident investigators to assist Lathrup Village police.
Michigan motorcycle no-fault benefits and fault-based claims

A separate fault-based claim follows different rules. Under MCL 500.3135, a person may remain subject to tort liability for noneconomic loss when the injured person suffered death. The statute also requires comparative-fault assessment and bars damages in favor of a party who is more than 50% at fault.
