Herbert Stager Killed in Kawkawlin Township M-13 Crash
Herbert "Herb" Stager, 53, died after an SUV and his Suzuki motorcycle crashed on M-13 in Kawkawlin Township, sheriff's deputies told MLive.
The crash happened July 8, 2026, in Bay County. Deputies said the SUV was driven by an 81-year-old man.
Authorities had not publicly identified the SUV driver or released a final crash sequence in the first reports. No citation information had been reported.
Legal Issues After a Fatal Kawkawlin Township Motorcycle Crash
Because the report involves a motorcycle and an SUV, the insurance questions may differ from an ordinary two-car crash. MCL 500.3114 includes special priority rules for motorcycle operators and passengers when a motorcycle crash involves a motor vehicle.
Fatal motor-vehicle crashes can also raise separate No-Fault and wrongful-death issues. MCL 500.3105 provides general context for No-Fault benefits arising from motor-vehicle use, while MCL 500.3108 addresses survivor's loss benefits after a death.
A wrongful death claim under MCL 600.2922 depends on evidence that a wrongful act, neglect, or fault caused the death. Here, the practical questions would likely start with the sheriff's crash report, vehicle positions, witness statements, scene evidence, and any nearby video showing how the SUV and motorcycle came into contact.
