Driver Seriously Injured After Robinson Township Rollover Crash

A 24-year-old Allendale man was seriously injured after his car rolled several times and ejected him during a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Robinson Township.

Ottawa County sheriff's deputies said the crash happened around 10:15 p.m. July 15 on 104th Avenue just south of Buchanan Street. The man was driving south in a Subaru sedan and was the car's only occupant.

Deputies said the Subaru passed a group of cars, then slowed and began pulling toward the shoulder. A 20-year-old Twin Lake man driving a Chevrolet Silverado tried to pass the Subaru before the vehicles collided.

The Subaru rolled several times and ejected its driver. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The initial report did not identify the hospital or provide a later condition update.

The Silverado driver and his passenger, a 20-year-old Allendale woman, were not injured. Investigators did not believe the Subaru driver was wearing a seat belt, deputies said. The road was closed for about three hours after the crash. The initial report did not give a final cause or report any citations.

Legal Questions After a Serious Rollover Crash

Michigan No-Fault personal protection insurance benefits, commonly called PIP benefits, may cover qualifying crash-related injuries without regard to who caused the crash. The applicable policy, priority rules, coverage selections and other facts still matter. A separate third-party bodily injury claim asks whether another driver was legally responsible for the crash.

For noneconomic losses such as pain and suffering, MCL 500.3135 generally requires death, serious impairment of body function or permanent serious disfigurement. A news report describing serious injuries does not decide that legal standard. Our guide explains who may pay medical bills after a Michigan crash.
