Westbound I-96 reopens after truck crash and diesel spill

Westbound Interstate 96 reopened by 8 a.m. Friday after a truck crash spilled diesel and restricted traffic to one lane in Detroit.

The crash was first reported just before 4 a.m. near Livernois Avenue. A truck reportedly caught fire, and its aerial footage showed crews cleaning the roadway.

Hazmat crews responded. A truck marked National Industrial Maintenance Inc. appeared to have crashed with a street sweeper that was damaged and off to the side, the outlet said.

Who can be responsible when a work truck crashes?

A vehicle owner can be responsible for injury to a person or property caused by negligent operation if the vehicle was driven with the owner’s consent or knowledge, subject to exceptions in Michigan’s vehicle-owner liability law, MCL 257.401.
