Woman killed, four injured in Grant Township crash

A 41-year-old woman died and four other people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday, Oct. 5, in Grant Township.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the intersection of Wildcat and Burtch roads just before 5 p.m.

Investigators said the woman was driving a Dodge Journey south on Wildcat Road when she entered the intersection and hit a Jeep Liberty heading west on Burtch Road. The Journey then hit a northbound Chevrolet Impala.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Tri-Hospital EMS took two other people to a hospital and two more suffered minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors. Its Accident Investigation Team is investigating.

How is fault divided in a Michigan multi-vehicle crash?

Several drivers can share responsibility for a crash, but the number of vehicles does not determine each driver’s share. Michigan’s fault-allocation rules require a judge or jury to assess each person’s percentage of fault.

Michigan Legal Center’s Michigan multi-vehicle crash guide explains why the sequence of impacts matters when distinguishing a driver who caused a collision from one whose vehicle was pushed into it.
