Two Kimball Township residents were hospitalized with significant injuries after a pickup truck overturned Tuesday.

According to St. Clair County sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14 on westbound I-94 near Fred Moore Highway.

When deputies got to the scene they found a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck overturned on the freeway shoulder.

The driver, a 34-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 41-year-old man, were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel before being taken to a local hospital.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the truck was traveling west when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. The passenger was ejected.

Authorities said both occupants had significant but non life threatening injuries. Westbound I-94 was temporarily closed during the response.

The Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate.

Legal options after a Michigan rollover crash

People injured while occupying a vehicle may qualify for Personal Injury Protection, or PIP, benefits under Michigan’s no-fault system without first proving who caused the crash. The applicable insurer depends on the policy and Michigan’s priority rules under MCL 500.3114.

Subject to coverage limits and other statutory requirements, MCL 500.3107 allows PIP benefits for reasonably necessary care, qualifying wage loss and replacement services.
