Two drivers injured in Bad Axe crash
A two-vehicle collision left both drivers with minor injuries Thursday afternoon.
The Bad Axe Police Department said the crash happened around 1:46 p.m. Aug. 20 just north of Sharon Drive.
A 52-year-old Cass City woman was entering North Van Dyke Road from a private drive in a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The Colorado collided with a southbound 2025 Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 77-year-old Bad Axe man.
A preliminary investigation identified the Blazer driver as at fault for failing to yield the right of way.
Central Huron Ambulance treated both drivers at the scene and released them. The Bad Axe Fire Department and Huron County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
Michigan no-fault benefits and injury claims after a crash
Michigan motor-vehicle claims can involve two separate paths. Under MCL 500.3105, personal injury protection benefits may be payable for accidental bodily injury without regard to fault, subject to the law and available coverage. Michigan Legal Center’s guide to Michigan PIP medical bills and priority explains how policy terms, coverage elections and insurer-priority rules can affect which insurer pays.
A separate claim against an at-fault driver is different. MCL 500.3135 generally permits noneconomic damages only when the injured person has suffered death, serious impairment of body function or permanent serious disfigurement. A police fault finding does not by itself establish insurance coverage or determine whether an injury meets that threshold.
