Truck crash disrupts U.S. 23 traffic in Hartland Township

A truck crash caused backups and forced drivers to reroute Monday morning as crews worked to clear debris from northbound U.S. 23.

The crash happened before 8 a.m. Oct. 5 near M-59 in Hartland Township. Early accounts described a semitruck and a tow truck carrying a vehicle.

A gravel hauler appeared overturned in the median, with at least one other vehicle off to the side of the highway. The tow truck appeared to have substantial front-end damage.

Crews were still clearing the scene at 9 a.m. It wasn’t clear whether anyone was injured or what led to the crash.

When can a trucking company be responsible for a crash in Michigan?

A trucking company may be responsible for an employee driver’s negligence when the driver was acting within the scope of employment. This can include a driver causing a collision while making a delivery for the employer.

An injury claim based on negligence requires proof that the failure caused the injury. Michigan Legal Center’s explanation of Michigan semi-truck accident claims discusses how driver conduct and employment relationships affect who may be responsible.
