Several injured in Walker multi-vehicle crash

Several injured in Walker multi-vehicle crash

Several people were injured Tuesday morning in a crash involving multiple vehicles in Walker.

The Walker Police Department and Walker Fire Department responded just after 7:50 a.m. Oct. 20 at 3 Mile Road and Bristol Avenue, according to Kent County dispatchers.

Dispatchers couldn't immediately confirm how many people were hurt or how seriously they were injured.

Who is responsible for a multi-vehicle crash in Michigan?

More than one driver can share responsibility, but fault isn't divided equally just because several vehicles were involved. Under MCL 600.6304, a court or jury considers each person's conduct and how it contributed to the claimed injuries. In an ordinary negligence case, each responsible person generally pays only their share of the damages.

Being involved doesn't automatically establish fault. For example, a driver's vehicle may be pushed into another without that driver having acted carelessly. Michigan Legal Center's multi-vehicle crash guide explains how the sequence of impacts helps distinguish involvement from legal responsibility.
