Semi-truck overturns into Pine Lake in West Bloomfield
A semi-truck overturned into Pine Lake in West Bloomfield on Monday, and a small fuel leak prompted a hazardous materials response.
West Bloomfield police said the crash happened about 6:24 p.m. on Pine Lake Road between Seminary Drive and Indian Trail. The 42-year-old driver was navigating a curve when the truck’s rear tires began sliding on dirt, police said. The truck left the roadway and overturned onto its side in the lake.
Emergency crews found the driver sitting on top of the overturned truck. He suffered a minor leg contusion and declined transportation to a hospital.
Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
A small amount of fuel leaked into the lake. The Oakland County Hazardous Materials Team, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Technical Rescue Team and environmental cleanup personnel responded to contain the spill and remove the truck.
Dozens of people on boats and in the surrounding neighborhood stopped to watch the response.
