Road worker injured in Sanilac County SUV crash

A 59-year-old Standish road worker was hit by an SUV and injured on Monday, Sept. 28.

The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened about 5:30 p.m. on Wheeler Road near Sanilac Road in Moore Township.

Investigators said a 61-year-old Snover man drove a 2015 GMC Acadia around a road closed sign and hit her.

She was treated at the scene by Moore Township Fire and Aspire EMS before being taken to Marlette Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

Workers' compensation and claims against an outside driver

Michigan's workers' compensation benefits summary explains how employees injured on the job may receive necessary medical care and qualifying wage-loss payments without proving someone else was at fault.

Under MCL 418.827, accepting workers' compensation does not bar an injury claim against a driver whose negligence caused the injury, provided the driver isn't the employer or a coworker. For a motor-vehicle injury claim, pain-and-suffering damages generally require death, permanent serious disfigurement or a serious impairment of body function.
