Police seek driver after juvenile pedestrian hit in Royal Oak Township
A child between 6 and 10 years old was critically injured in a hit and run crash late Sunday in Royal Oak Township.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers responded to a call about an accidentally around 11:17 p.m. July 19 to westbound 8 Mile Road east of Wyoming Avenue.
The driver involved left the scene traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road. Michigan State Police have released that the juvenile was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but did not release their condition, a description of the driver or vehicle or other details about the crash.
The Metro North Post and detectives from the Second District Headquarters Special Investigation Section are investigating. Police said the investigation remains in its early stages.

Michigan law after an injury hit-and-run
Michigan law generally requires a driver involved in a crash resulting in injury to stop and remain at the scene, unless the statute’s limited reporting exception applies. See MCL 257.617a.
A pedestrian injured by a motor vehicle may have access to personal injury protection, or PIP, benefits without first establishing fault. Michigan’s no-fault law provides PIP benefits for accidental bodily injury arising from the use of a motor vehicle, but the available coverage and responsible insurer depend on the person’s household coverage and other facts not publicly available here. If investigators identify the driver, a separate claim for noneconomic damages would depend on the evidence, fault and Michigan’s injury threshold. MCL 500.3135 limits those damages to cases involving death, permanent serious disfigurement or a serious impairment of body function.
