One person dies in Menominee Township UTV crash
One person died Tuesday night after a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crash in Menominee Township.
The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 7:52 p.m. July 21 of a crash south of the intersection of County Road 577 and Birch Creek #6 Road.
Deputies found the driver had been ejected from the UTV and suffered significant traumatic injuries. Responders attempted life-saving measures, but the driver was declared dead at the scene.
Officers later located the passenger on foot, who was taken to a hospital for medical care.
The sheriff’s office said speed and alcohol are believed to be factors. The investigation remains ongoing.

Michigan ORV rules on speed and alcohol
Michigan law prohibits operating off road recreational vehicles (ORV) at a speed greater than is reasonable or in a careless manner without due regard for existing conditions. MCL 324.81133 also addresses required safety equipment in certain circumstances.
A separate law prohibits operating an ORV while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, with an alcohol content of 0.08 or more, or while visibly impaired by alcohol or drugs. MCL 324.81134 outlines those prohibitions. A preliminary investigative assessment does not itself establish a legal violation or criminal charge.
