MSP investigates suspected drunk-driving crash involving Midland County deputy
Michigan State Police are investigating an early Tuesday rollover crash in Midland County involving a Midland County Sheriff's deputy, according to the Huron Daily Tribune.
The article reported that alcohol is believed to have been a factor, citing an incident report. Deputies were dispatched at about 1:08 a.m. on June 16, 2026, to the area of Lake Sanford Road and Turtle Cove in Edenville Township after Central Dispatch received an iPhone crash alert.
Deputies found a single vehicle overturned in a ditch and made contact with one injured male occupant, who was identified as a Midland County deputy. His name had not been released pending arraignment, according to the report.
Midland County Sheriff Scott Holzinger said the investigation was turned over to MSP and that the driver was placed on administrative suspension pending further investigation. Edenville Township Fire Department and MyMichigan EMS assisted at the scene.
The public source record does not say whether the deputy was on duty, whether the vehicle was county-owned, what injuries were reported, or what charges, if any, had been filed.
Legal Issues After a Suspected Drunk-Driving Crash
Michigan's OWI statute, MCL 257.625, is the general legal framework for operating while intoxicated. That statute provides context only. The current source record does not establish that the deputy was charged, convicted, or civilly liable.
For Michigan Legal Center readers, the civil injury angle is limited because no civilian injury, death, or identified claimant was reported. If later reports identify another injured person, property damage, or formal charges, the criminal OWI case and any civil crash claim would remain separate issues.
