Man dies, infant injured in Flint crash
A man died and an infant was injured in a two vehicle crash early Sunday in Flint.
The crash happened about 12:32 a.m. Aug. 23 at Dupont Street and West Stewart Avenue, according to the City of Flint Police Department.
A white Buick Encore heading east on West Stewart Avenue collided with a white Hyundai Tucson heading north on Dupont Street.
The adult man driving the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. An infant boy riding in the Buick was taken to a local hospital and listed in good condition.
The adult woman driving the Hyundai was hospitalized in critical condition.
Investigators have not determined which driver was at fault. Police said the preliminary investigation is examining speed, alcohol and possible drug impairment as contributing factors.

How suspected impairment affects fault in Michigan
Michigan’s impaired-driving law, MCL 257.625, prohibits operating a vehicle while intoxicated or visibly impaired.
A police investigation into impairment does not by itself determine civil fault. Civil responsibility depends on evidence of each driver’s conduct, whether that conduct caused the collision and any allocation of comparative fault. A criminal investigation and a civil claim are separate proceedings.
