Jeep collides with gas station in Bloomfield

Jeep crashes into Bloomfield hills gas station Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel are on the scene of the crash of a single vehicle that drove into the side of the gas station at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22.

Aerial footage showed a red, disabled Jeep that crashed into the Shell gas station off Woodward Avenue and Square Lake Road.

No information was available as of 2 p.m. Wednesday about whether the driver or any passengers were injured. All occupants have been removed and a tow truck is on scene.

Eastbound Square Lake at Woodward Avenue is temporarily closed while the crash is under investigation, according to Bloomfield Township police.

Legal options after an accident

Michigan is a no-fault state, which means that an injured person may qualify for Personal Injury Protection benefits without having to determine whose fault an accident is.

These benefits can help cover economic losses for injuries caused by the crash such as allowable medical expenses, wage loss, replacement services or attendant care.

Recovering noneconomic losses usually requires a separate claim against an at-fault driver. This would only be an option if the injuries meet the state’s threshold of serious impairment of body function, permanent serious disfigurement or death.
