Ignacio Ramos killed in Holland rollover crash
Ignacio Ramos was thrown from his car and died in a rollover crash early Monday.
The Holland Department of Public Safety identified Ramos as a Holland Township resident. Officers and firefighters responded about 12:10 a.m. Nov. 2 near River Avenue and First Street.
A preliminary investigation found that Ramos was driving a 2023 Honda Accord north on River Avenue when he lost control on a curve and went off the right side of the road. The car hit a large tree and rolled over.
Ramos was the only person in the car. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Can no-fault benefits apply after a fatal single-vehicle crash?
Yes, if the insurance and dependency requirements are met and no statutory exclusion applies. Michigan no-fault survivor’s loss benefits don’t require proof that another driver caused the crash.
Under MCL 500.3108, survivor’s loss benefits can replace financial contributions the deceased would have provided to dependents during their dependency. They also cover up to $20 a day in expenses reasonably incurred during that dependency for ordinary and necessary services the deceased would have performed for them. A combined payment limit applies to all survivors, and benefits aren’t payable beyond the first three years after the crash.
