I-94 reopens after multi-vehicle injury crash in Dearborn
All lanes of I-94 have reopened after a multi-vehicle injury crash blocked traffic in both directions in Dearborn on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Michigan State Police troopers responded near Greenfield Road. All westbound lanes were closed, along with the left and right eastbound lanes.
During the closure, state police told drivers, “You are asked to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and expect significant delays.” In a later update, the agency encouraged motorists to remain cautious in the area.
How is fault divided after a Michigan multi-vehicle crash?
More than one driver can share responsibility for a crash. Under MCL 600.2957, a judge or jury assigns fault in proportion to each person's responsibility for the injuries. Each responsible driver generally pays only that driver's share of the damages.
Michigan Legal Center's guide to multi-vehicle and chain-reaction crashes explains why the order of impacts matters when distinguishing a driver who caused a collision from one whose vehicle was pushed into it.
An injured person's own percentage of fault can reduce compensation. Under Michigan's motor-vehicle liability law, someone more than 50% at fault can't recover pain-and-suffering damages.
