Fremont High School student dies after dirt bike crash near Fremont

A 15-year-old Fremont High School student died Thursday from injuries sustained in a dirt bike crash near Fremont.

Michigan State Police said the boy was riding a dirt bike Wednesday morning when he struck a septic truck near Luce Avenue and 48th Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Fremont police and fire personnel assisted state police at the scene.

Fremont Public Schools confirmed the boy attended Fremont High School. The district said counselors and members of its Crisis Response Team will be available at the high school during the summer for students who need support.

Michigan no-fault law after a dirt bike crash

When a dirt bike crash involves a motor vehicle, Michigan insurance questions may include personal protection insurance (PIP) benefits and a separate claim based on fault.

Under MCL 500.3105, PIP benefits may be payable for accidental bodily injury without regard to fault.
