Firefighters rescue driver after semi crashes off I-69 overpass in Charlotte
Firefighters rescued a driver trapped in a semi after it crashed off Interstate 69 and came to rest on Packard Highway in Charlotte early Monday.
The Charlotte Fire Department said crews were called just after midnight to Packard Highway at the southbound I-69 overpass. The department said the semi left the road and struck the bridge embankment and went over the edge before coming to rest on Packard Highway below.
The first fire units arrived in less than five minutes. Firefighters stabilized the semi and used multiple hydraulic extrication tools to free the driver about 10 minutes after arriving.
Eaton Area EMS transported the driver to a Lansing area hospital. The department did not provide the driver’s condition or say what caused the semi to leave the freeway.
