Driver rescued after Detroit River crash at Dingell Park
Emergency crews pulled a man from the Detroit River and took him to a hospital Thursday after his car crashed into the water.
At Dingell Park, police said he drove through a fence around noon Sept. 17.
Crews later recovered the car. The area was taped off, and barricades were placed in front of the damaged section of fence.
Customers and employees at Riverside Coney Island, across from the park, saw the car enter the water.
“I was looking out the window, and I saw a car jumping in the water, but I wasn’t sure if it was real or not,” said Brisa Stolarzuk. “I saw the police coming right after it happened, a lot of police officers, the fire department also came, so thank God they came and they could take him.”
As of Thursday night, officials had not released the man’s condition or the cause of the crash. Police were investigating.
