Driver injured in I-75 rollover in Chippewa County
Emergency crews freed a pickup driver who suffered a head injury after his truck rolled off I-75 early Sunday.
The crash was reported about 5:04 a.m. Oct. 18 near mile marker 389 in Chippewa County.
The pickup rolled several times and came to rest upside down, trapping him inside. Gasoline was leaking from the truck as rescuers worked to free him. He was taken to a hospital with a head wound.
Dafter Township and Bay Mills emergency crews responded, along with state police and Chippewa County sheriff's deputies. A lane closure disrupted traffic for less than an hour during the rescue.
No-fault benefits after a Michigan rollover crash
An injured driver doesn't have to prove that another driver caused a rollover to seek no-fault benefits. Under MCL 500.3105, benefits for accidental injuries arising from the use of a motor vehicle are payable without regard to fault, subject to Michigan's eligibility rules.
Personal injury protection (PIP) medical benefits can pay reasonable charges for reasonably necessary treatment, recovery and rehabilitation, subject to the applicable coverage. PIP medical coverage isn't always unlimited. A selected dollar limit, a valid medical exclusion or an eligible opt-out can affect payment.
Michigan Legal Center's explanation of Michigan car accident medical bills and PIP priority discusses coverage limits and which insurer may be responsible for medical bills.
