Crash closes Washington Township Tim Hortons

A Washington Township Tim Hortons was closed for repairs Thursday after a car drove through it’s wall.

The crash happened Sept. 17 at 13240 32 Mile Road, officials said. No one was injured.

The restaurant was closed when the vehicle hit the building. Two employees were cleaning in the back and were not hurt.

The driver was taken by ambulance for evaluation after a possible medical emergency. Officials identified a seizure as one possibility and said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have contributed.

Officials expected more information in the coming days about whether the drive-through could safely reopen while additional repairs continued.

Washington Township firefighters, emergency medical personnel and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Who pays when a vehicle crashes into a building in Michigan?

Auto insurance can cover damage to someone else’s building through property protection insurance. Under MCL 500.3121, these benefits cover accidental property damage from the using a motor vehicle, subject to statutory conditions and exclusions.
