Belleville man dies in Waterloo Township single-vehicle crash

A 62-year-old Belleville man died Saturday in a Waterloo Township crash.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson Post responded around 7:20 p.m. July 25 near Territorial and Mount Hope roads. They said the man was driving a tan sedan east on Territorial Road when it traveled onto the gravel shoulder.

Preliminary findings indicate he lost control, crossed the roadway and ran off the road, striking a traffic sign and then a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Stockbridge Fire Department, Stockbridge Ambulance and Consumers Energy assisted at the scene.

Michigan law on impaired driving

Michigan law prohibits operating a vehicle while intoxicated or while a person’s ability to drive is visibly impaired.
