Wyoming motorcyclist seriously injured in U.S. 131 crash
A 35-year-old motorcyclist from the Wyoming area suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday.
Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post troopers responded at about 1:53 a.m. Aug. 26 to the southbound U.S. 131 exit to 54th Street.
Troopers found the rider in the grass beyond a guardrail. Wyoming police officers and firefighters assisted at the scene, and an ambulance took him to a local hospital.
Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet. The crash remained under investigation Wednesday.

When may a Michigan motorcyclist ride without a helmet?
Some riders may. Under MCL 257.658, a motorcycle operator age 21 or older may ride without a helmet if the operator has held a motorcycle endorsement for at least two years or passed an approved safety course and has at least $20,000 in first-party medical benefits. Additional coverage requirements apply when a passenger is riding.
