Woman dies after Grand Blanc crosswalk crash
A 76-year-old woman died after a turning vehicle hit her in a Grand Blanc crosswalk Saturday morning.
The City of Grand Blanc Police Department said officers responded to South Saginaw Street and Reid Road around 9:11 a.m. Sept. 12.
Investigators determined that the woman, a Grand Blanc resident, was walking east across South Saginaw Street in the intersection’s northern crosswalk. A 34-year-old Grand Blanc woman driving east on Reid Road turned left onto northbound South Saginaw Street and hit her.
The pedestrian was taken to Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in critical condition where she later died that same day.
Police said speed, drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors. The crash remains under investigation, and police said the case would be submitted to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office for review when the investigation is complete.

Michigan crosswalk rules for turning drivers
A green light does not eliminate a turning driver’s duty to yield. Under MCL 257.612, drivers facing a green signal must yield to pedestrians lawfully within the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk. Drivers turning on a green arrow must also yield to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk.
These rules make the traffic signals and the pedestrian’s lawful presence in the crossing important to determining responsibility.
