Two people hospitalized after boat crash on Lake Macatawa in Holland
Two people were hospitalized Sunday, September 6, after a boat crash on Lake Macatawa near Kollen Park in Holland, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said.
First responders were dispatched about 5:10 p.m. after an overturned boat was reported near the park, WHTC reported.
Deputies said their preliminary investigation found that a 43-year-old Hamilton-area man was operating the boat eastbound at high speed, with a woman aboard. When the boat struck a large wake, its bow rose before it landed on its side.
Responders found both occupants on the boat. The man was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the woman was taken to Holland Hospital with minor injuries.
Holland public safety crews and Park Township firefighters also responded. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Allegan County Sheriff's Office joined the response.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. Authorities had not released the occupants' names.
