Pedestrian killed on US-41 near Baraga Lakeside Inn

A 50-year-old L’Anse woman died after being hit by a car on US-41 on Monday night.

Michigan State Police said troopers from the Calumet Post responded at about 10:20 p.m. Aug. 10 to US-41 near the Baraga Lakeside Inn in Baraga County.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 66-year-old L’Anse man was driving southwest on US-41 when the woman entered the roadway on foot. Police said the driver could not avoid hitting her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was medically evaluated at the scene and released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
