Pedestrian killed on U.S. 12 in Woodstock Township
A 50-year-old Addison man died early Thursday after he was hit by a car.
Michigan State Police said the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 8 on U.S. 12 near Briggs Highway in Woodstock Township, Lenawee County.
A preliminary investigation found he was walking in the roadway when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 48-year-old Jonesville woman, was not injured.
U.S. 12 was closed for several hours while troopers investigated. Police said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

Michigan law for pedestrians walking along a road
Michigan law requires pedestrians to stay off the main traveled portion of a highway where sidewalks are provided. Where there are no sidewalks, MCL 257.655 requires pedestrians, when practicable, to walk on the left side facing the traffic nearest them.
Drivers also have duties.
