Passenger seriously injured in Lapeer County crash with state police cruiser

A 67-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries after a crash with a state police car.

In a Monday evening update, Michigan State Police’s Third District said the crash happened about 4:20 p.m. on M-53 near Burnside Road in Lapeer County on Sept. 28. A 68-year-old Avoca man was driving the Traverse, which carried four passengers.

The injured woman was seated in the third row and taken to a local hospital. Police reported no other injuries, including to the trooper.

The road closed during the investigation and later reopened. Investigators have not released details on what led to the crash.
