Man killed in I-94 rollover in Kimball Township

A 26-year-old Port Huron man died Saturday night after his vehicle flipped and rolled over on I-94.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received reports around 11:42 p.m. Sept. 19 of a vehicle driving off the right side of I-94 between Wadhams and Gratiot roads. Authorities received an iPhone crash alert from the same area.

Sheriff’s deputies, Kimball Township firefighters and Tri-Hospital EMS crews found a vehicle in the east-side ditch that had been rolled over. The driver and only occupant was partially ejected and trapped underneath it. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe no other vehicles were involved. The St. Clair County Crash Investigation Team is investigating, and authorities believe speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Michigan’s alcohol-related driving laws

Michigan prohibits driving on public roads while under the influence of alcohol or with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. Under MCL 257.625, even if the driver is below that limit, they can still be charged if they are visibly impaired.
