A 32-year-old Ashley man died at a hospital after a rollover crash Thursday morning.

The Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Sept. 17 on U.S. 127 near Harrison Road.

He lost control while driving north, and his car rolled into the median. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and later died.

Michigan law on drug-impaired driving

Michigan law prohibits driving under the influence of a controlled substance or another intoxicating substance. Under MCL 257.625, being under the influence includes being visibly impaired.

Operating while intoxicated can involve drugs as well as alcohol. Michigan Legal Center’s guide to OWI and DUI in Michigan explains those terms and the distinction between a criminal case and a civil injury claim. The Food and Drug Administration warns that some medicines can make driving unsafe, including opioid medications and sleeping pills.
