Bay City teen seriously injured in mini bike hit-and-run
A 14-year-old Bay City boy was hospitalized Thursday with serious injuries after being hit by a pickup while on a mini bike in Maplewood Park.
The Bay City Department of Public Safety said officers were called to the park near Second and Grant streets about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
Investigators said it appears the driver intentionally hit the mini bike. The pickup fled and was later found several blocks away near Lincoln and Tenth streets. Police had not identified or located the driver as of their Friday release.
Residents near Maplewood Park and between the park and Lincoln and Tenth streets are asked to review surveillance footage for the pickup or its occupants.

Michigan injury claims when a driver intentionally causes harm
Michigan's no-fault law preserves civil liability for intentionally caused harm under MCL 500.3135(3)(a). This exception can allow an injured person to seek compensation for pain and suffering without meeting the serious injury requirement that generally applies to negligence claims.
The claim must establish that the driver intended to cause the harm, not just that the driving maneuver was deliberate. The statute also excludes acts intended to avert injury to a person or damage to property from its intentional-harm exception, even when harm is substantially certain to result.
Video and witness accounts can be especially useful when intent is disputed, as Michigan Legal Center explains in its discussion of injuries caused by aggressive drivers.
