Every 10 seconds, a car crash occurs somewhere in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It's no secret that vehicle accidents account for the vast bulk of personal injury lawsuits heard by modern courts.
Insurance companies in Michigan are required to cover accident-related expenses for their policyholders, regardless of who was at fault, according to the state's "no-fault" law. First-party benefits are monetary damages, and you may file a claim for them or for non-monetary losses like pain and suffering.
However, victims often express concern that the cost of hiring counsel will be too great. Lawyer-represented injury claimants often get far larger settlements than do self-represented claimants. Also, most personal injury attorneys will not want money from accident victims up advance since they often operate on a contingency fee basis.
There are several ways in which a lawyer may aid a car accident victim.
