Our sympathies continue to be with the wounded and their families.
There has been an uptick in fatal vehicle accidents around the nation, including in Michigan, in recent years. Despite attempts to curb dangerous driving behaviors including speeding, reckless driving, and driver inattention, the number of traffic events that result in injuries continues to climb each year.
If the driver was careless or negligent, however, you may sue them for money to pay your medical bills and other expenses. Victims of automobile accidents endure not only ongoing physical pain, but also substantial financial hardships. Injuries including concussions, burns, broken bones, internal bleeding, etc. are rather uncommon even in low-velocity or apparently minor impacts. Accident victims who sustain injuries or lose loved ones through no fault of their own may develop PTSD, anxiety, and permanent disability as a result.
It may be difficult enough to pursue compensation after an auto accident that was clearly the fault of the other motorist without also having to navigate the nuances of Michigan's personal injury law. In addition, insurance adjusters will utilize whatever means necessary to prevent their firms from paying victims the full and fair compensation to which they are entitled when victims seek to bargain with the companies on their own.
Hiring a lawyer might increase your chances of getting fair compensation after an accident. You won't have to pay anything up front if you choose a lawyer that takes cases on a contingency fee basis. Simply put, you won't owe any money to your lawyer until your case is settled or you get a favorable verdict. Your legal fees (often 30–40% of your total judgment) won't be due until you get your settlement.
