Van Buren County, MI (July 24, 2023) - According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, a 43-year-old Illinois man was detained Saturday night after it was claimed he injured two persons in a rafting accident.

The alleged suspect was pulling two passengers in a raft on Silver Lake while he was reportedly drunk and operating his jet ski. Deputies said that when the man made a turn, the raft containing a 15-year-old child and a 21-year-old man from Illinois swung out and struck a wooden floating pier.

According to the sheriff's office, the 15-year-old child was discharged by emergency services, while the 21-year-old was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office is still investigating but encouraged witnesses with further information regarding this incident to get in touch with them.
