Car Accidents in Michigan

Shelby Township, MI – Injury Crash at 22 Mile Rd and Schoenherr RdMichigan sees tens of thousands of injury crashes each year, many of which occur at intersections. These areas are especially vulnerable to collisions due to the mix of turning vehicles, traffic signals, and changing speeds. Suburban intersections like 22 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road can be particularly hazardous during peak travel times.

One important safety issue surrounding intersection crashes is signal and sign-related confusion. Here’s how poor traffic control or miscommunication at intersections can contribute to accidents:

  • Unclear Right-of-Way: When signage is obstructed or road markings are worn, drivers may be unsure who has the right-of-way. This confusion can lead to hesitation or aggressive moves, increasing the chance of impact.
  • Signal Timing Issues: Improperly timed traffic lights may not allow enough time for vehicles to clear an intersection safely. This can lead to rear-end or side-impact collisions, especially when drivers try to “beat the light.”
  • Missing or Damaged Signs: Stop signs or yield signs that are missing, damaged, or hidden by foliage may go unnoticed, leading drivers to enter intersections without stopping.
  • Flashing Signals or Temporary Controls: During power outages or road construction, intersections may rely on flashing signals or temporary signage. These situations demand greater attention, but many drivers either overlook or misinterpret them.
  • Left Turn Conflicts: Intersections without dedicated turn arrows or protected phases often lead to dangerous left-turn crashes. Drivers misjudging oncoming traffic or gaps may cause serious side-impact collisions.
