The number of serious car accidents has been steadily rising in several states, including Michigan, over the past few years. While many of these crashes could be prevented by eliminating dangerous driving behaviors—such as speeding, careless driving, or distracted driving—the number of accidents that cause injuries continues to grow each year. Sadly, the consequences of these accidents can be life-changing for victims.
If a driver’s negligence or recklessness caused the accident, you may have the right to file a claim and seek compensation for the losses you suffered, including any injuries. Victims of car crashes often face severe financial challenges on top of the physical pain and suffering they endure. Serious injuries like brain trauma, burns, spinal cord damage, fractures, and internal bleeding are not uncommon, even in low-speed accidents that may seem minor. Additionally, many accident victims struggle with emotional and mental health challenges such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and confusion—especially when they were not at fault for the crash and have lost a loved one.
Trying to recover damages from a car accident that was caused by another driver’s negligence can be frustrating, especially when Michigan’s personal injury laws are complex and hard to understand. On top of that, insurance companies often make it difficult for victims to receive the full compensation they deserve. Insurance adjusters may try to minimize or deny claims, leaving victims to handle their medical expenses, lost wages, and other costs on their own. This is why it is important to contact a Detroit car accident lawyer as soon as possible after an accident.
