Commissioner William Dwyer offered an update on the incident late Sunday evening. Warren police and fire units responded to a scene of a car crash with injuries on Van Dyke and Chicago (13 Mile) at 5:15 p.m. on October 15. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered five victims who needed medical treatment. Four of the wounded were all riding together in the same car. One of the wounded was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being conveyed by the Warren Fire Department.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a northbound Toyota Camry was nearing the 13 Mile intersection with Van Dyke when it reportedly ignored a traffic signal and collided with an eastbound Honda. The collision between the Toyota and the Honda also damaged a third car, a Mazda.
Emergency Management Teams supervised the oil spill's cleanup and containment. Police haven't yet determined whether drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving had a role in this incident, but officers were reviewing all those possibilities.
The injured victims and their loved ones are in our thoughts at this time.
