Detroit, MI (October 8, 2023) - On Saturday night, October 7, a fire on the west side of Detroit claimed the life of an elderly woman, per local authorities who responded to the scene.
According to the Detroit Fire Department, the blaze started on Hartwell Street, close to the intersection of Grand River and Schaefer, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Firefighters entered the burning building and located the woman inside. She was rushed to an area hospital but later confirmed deceased as a result of her injuries.
Authorities have not published her name or age, and it was unclear whether or whether anybody else was there in the house during the blaze.
The fire's cause has yet to be determined, though officials are continuing to investigate in the interim.
