Detroit, MI (September 11, 2023) - Troopers say the driver of a jackknifed truck was speeding on Tuesday morning when it crashed on Interstate 75, causing delays for motorists in the southwest Detroit area and a potential secondary collision.
First Lieutenant Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police reported the accident on northbound I-75 near Fort Street at 3:35 a.m. in a social media post.
Shaw claims that the Detroit Regional Communication Center received reports of a jackknifed truck and sent officers to the location. As officials investigated the incident and personnel tried to clear up the debris that had clogged both sides of the motorway, traffic in the region was backed up for several hours during the morning commute, and a related chain-reaction crash occurred.
Debris was flung across both lanes of traffic and hit several cars, according to authorities, though the total number of injuries was not reported.
At 8:00 a.m., all lanes were reopened, though officers are still investigating the accident.
At this time, our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones.
