Elmwood Township, MI (September 7, 2023) - Two cars collided in the 11000 block of South Bugai Road in Elmwood Township at about 4:00 p.m. on September 4, according to local officers.
Multiple fire and rescue services were sent to the scene. Within minutes, deputies from Leelanau County had also arrived and discovered several injuries and a burning car. Officials began working to extinguish the fire and extract victims from one of the vehicles, a truck. In the process, one deputy was hurt; he was treated at Munson Medical Center and later discharged.
The sheriff's office concluded that a 2023 Toyota with four people and a 2020 Chevrolet with three persons and two dogs were involved in a head-on collision. Several ambulances transferred the seven injured victims to Munson Medical Center, where one of them was declared dead upon arrival.
An investigation is still ongoing in the interim.
