Grand Rapids, MI (August 27, 2023) - A motorcyclist was killed in Grand Rapids early on Saturday, August 26.
A motorbike and a vehicle were involved in a collision near the corner of Cesar E. Chavez Avenue SW and B Street SW just after midnight, prompting a response from the Grand Rapids Police Department.
Officers who responded to the scene said the Wyoming man, age 21, riding the motorcycle was dead when they arrived. It seems that the suspect motorist did not stop and instead drove away. With the use of a Michigan State Police helicopter, the GRPD was able to track down the driver and one of the three passengers, as they claim.
The 18-year-old male driver, who was detained after being treated at a hospital, was identified as being from Oklahoma.
Officer Thompson of the GRPD may be reached by witnesses. Meanwhile, a probe has been launched.
Our hearts go out to the victim's loved ones.
