Detroit, MI (August 26, 2023) - Police say a wrong-way accident on Interstate 75 near Detroit killed one man and wounded another on Saturday, August 26.
A 26-year-old Detroit woman was reportedly driving the wrong way on southbound I-75 and collided with a Ford Fusion near Schaefer Highway, according to the Michigan State Police. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., per authorities.
The driver of the Ford, a 39-year-old man, was declared dead at the site of the collision. The alleged wrong-way driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition, though it's unclear if any other victim was injured in the accident.
The cause of the accident has yet to be determined, and police did not say whether the motorist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Lieutenant Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police says the investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
