Detroit, MI (August 18, 2023) - On Thursday night, August 17, reports of a car accident with injuries were received, causing the Detroit Police Department to dispatch an immediate response.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has sent a statement stating that the accident happened on southbound State Route 10 near the Highway 8 exit. At 11:20 p.m., Detroit police and the Michigan State Police launched their investigation.

The Detroit Police Department swiftly reached out to local emergency medical agencies for help, although it is unclear how many people were hurt. The current conditions of the individuals evaluated by EMTs at the scene are unknown.

Though their investigation is still in progress, DPD detectives have begun reaching out to potential witnesses.

We are thinking about the wounded people and their families.

What to Do If You're in a Car Accident in Detroit

Although it might be unpleasant and challenging, there are basic things you can do to protect your legal rights following a car accident in Michigan.

If injuries or property damage from a car accident exceed $1,000 in Michigan, the injured party or their insurance company must first submit a police report. The police report will describe the accident site, name and contact any witnesses, and provide the names and policy numbers of any connected insurance companies.

As soon as it happens, immediate medical attention is required. Injuries, no matter how slight, may have a significant impact on an individual's standard of living. Moreover, it is critical to maintain thorough records as soon as symptoms develop to demonstrate that the event was the genesis of these problems.

If you have any new injuries or symptoms after starting treatment, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor. You should keep track of your injury's incidence, severity, any associated costs, and any adjustments to your treatment plan.

If you've been hurt in any way, but particularly if you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, see a doctor right away:

  • Tingling sensations and/or headaches
  • Lightheadedness
  • Hearing loss or the experience of constant ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Impairment in clarity of vision
  • Memory loss and disorientation
  • Mood swings and mental instability that are extreme

Physical therapy and occupational therapy, in addition to regular checkups with your primary care physician, are necessary for a thorough recovery after an accident. This is important for both your claim and any legal action you may take, since insurance adjusters in Michigan will likely argue that an accident victim who fails to see a doctor after being injured must not be hurt.
