Eagle Township, MI (August 12, 2023) - The Clinton County Sheriff's Office stated on Saturday afternoon that they had taken into custody a suspect in a tragic hit-and-run accident that occurred on West Grand River Highway in Eagle Township.
After 11:00 p.m. on Friday night, sheriff's officers responded to a hit-and-run collision that had occurred on Grand River Highway west of South Hinman Road.
Officers arrived to find a 30-year-old male from Eagle Township lying in the roadway. Preliminary investigation and witness accounts led deputies to determine that a vehicle traveling westbound struck and drove away from an electric scooter traveling westbound.
According to the sheriff's office, the man was riding a scooter equipped with lights and a luminous traffic vest on the westbound shoulder of Grand River Highway when he was struck by a car. Evidence from the site let deputies identify the suspect car as a 2007 Ford Edge down to the make and model.
On Saturday afternoon, the sheriff's office made an announcement saying that the car and the suspect had been found and that the suspect was now in jail.
After the victim's family has been contacted and the defendant has been arraigned, the department will provide more information.
