Schoolcraft Township, MI (August 1, 2023) - On Monday, a bus hit a teenager crossing the highway, and officers with the Schoolcraft Township PD have now released additional details regarding the incident.
According to the Michigan State Police, the incident occurred at 2:00 p.m. and sent the victim, as well as one of the drivers, to an area hospital.
While attempting to cross U.S. Highway 131 at Vienna Street in Schoolcraft Township, a 14-year-old girl was struck and seriously hurt by a northbound vehicle due to a traffic backup caused by construction. MSP released an amended statement on Tuesday clarifying that a bus traveling south struck the teen rather than a semi-truck, as had been previously reported.
The force of the collision reportedly forced the teen into a semi-truck that had stopped in the northbound lane due to heavy traffic.
Officers say the victim sustained major injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where they remain in unknown condition. One of the drivers was also treated for injuries but released from the hospital shortly thereafter. Schoolcraft Township authorities are handling the crash investigation and have not released any other details.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their loved ones. We hope for their complete recovery.
